e-miracle Nr. 9

Dear friend,

Our feelings are probably the most ignored, most unspoken, most hidden things in our lives. And yet it is essential that we look at them if we are to find our way back to inner peace.

In this e-miracle I would like to share some of the thoughts I have learned about feelings.

Blessings,
Douglas

'Releasing Feelings - Safety and Support'

Often in our lives we have suppressed our feelings because we didn't feel safe enough to feel and express them. These unfelt feelings of hurt, anger, sadness, disappointment etc. stay in our systems waiting to be felt. If they are not felt and released, they either cause depression and stress or they attack the body and cause aging and sickness.

Even though it is usually at an unconscious level, many of us choose to keep these feelings suppressed because we are afraid to feel them. We could even get sick or die rather than bring them to the surface. Releasing them is usually not as painful as when we shut down on them in the first place, but we think it will be. Therefore, an enormous amount of safety is required in order to release them from the subconscious.

We often can't give each other the safety that is needed to feel all these feelings, and actually encourage each other not to feel them in various ways. For example, we might say something like: "Oh, don't upset yourself dear", or  "Don't cry dear, try and be strong". We stop each other like this instead of just listening. It is usually meant lovingly, but the consciousness around feelings is often the reverse of what is actually needed. We need to remember that it is only once a feeling has been fully felt and expressed that we can start to see it differently.

In order to be able to let go, it is sometimes important to be in the company of others who are safe with their own feelings. We are simply able to let go into the space they provide.

We also need to re-train our minds to think safe thoughts about feelings. For example we can use affirmations like:

It is safe to feel all my feelings!
All my feelings are welcome!
I have a right to express myself!
I am surrounded by love and support!

There is an enormous amount of energy locked up in suppressed feelings. Think what we could do when all that energy is flowing freely.............!
